About the Maryland Economic Development Commission

The MEDC leverages the expertise of Maryland’s business leaders to provide recommendations to the Governor and administration on policy, programs, and spending priorities. The Commission collaborates with the Administration, General Assembly, the business community, and the public to advocate for pro-business policies that support economic growth and sustainability.

Shawn Salta’s Vision

Upon his appointment, Salta expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity:

"This is a great honor. As we move forward through some difficult and challenging times, both with Covid issues and especially now with serious inflation issues, it will be more important than ever to make certain a strong business platform is in place for Maryland businesses to grow and prosper. MEDC’s Mission

Since its founding in 1995, the MEDC has been pivotal in shaping Maryland’s economic development strategies. Composed of 25 voting members, the Commission works to:

  • Establish state economic development policies.
  • Support Maryland Commerce in attracting, creating, and retaining businesses and jobs.
  • Provide a comprehensive evaluation of Maryland’s business climate.
  • Recommend policies, programs, and spending priorities to the Governor.
